But if we go back before the concept of proofing, and I have to admit, I am just a little young to have experienced this, you got what the photographer made for you, sight unseen.
As usual, this could cause problems if the client did not
see things the way the photographer did. When technology and
costs gave the professional photographer the ability to do multiple
shots and produce proofing, this became the normal standard. It
became a collaborative effort between the client and the
photographer. Then, to make up for the expense of creating
physical proofs, the photographer would sell final prints at a
tremendous markup.
Now in the 21st century, we have two new developments that

Digital photography has now reached quality standards of
film photography. Also, there are tools out there which both the
professional and the amateur have access to. No longer is it
necessary to print proofs. Simply, as a professional photographer
I take all of the pictures that I have in the past plus more, and set
them up for the client to receive them on however many CD's it takes to
hold them, and the client then does the printing. I create
dynamite digital picture files and the client bypasses the middleman to
print, eliminating the need to pay the expensive markup.
This is especially great for wedding photography, family
portraits, and senior portraits.
